Vacation
Still haven't been blogging very much but I did make it to my planned vacation. The trip going down was pretty good. My old gps "TomTom" didn't work the way it should have. It kept loosing gps signal over the mountains and several spots in North Carolina. Made navigation difficult even though I used my cell phone google maps still lost signal in several areas. The trip took about nearly 7 hours to the beach and back. Was a good test on my little Hyundai Elantra GT. Had no car issues at all and the gas mileage was around 30 to 32 miles per gallon. Not bad. Packed a lot of snacks and drinks to take with us.
Had booked a vacation at a hotel but when I got there it wasn't what I thought it would be. So, I cancelled there and went to a much better place "Westgate Resorts". The room was clean was on the ocean front. Had a direct view of the beach from my room. Sat on the balcony watched the beach and the resorts pool was below also I could watch everyone swimming. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.
Relaxed in our room the day of our arrival and bought dinner at a restaurant named "Friendlys". Food is a little expensive there. Most everything is expensive at the beach. Seen beautiful sun rises every morning from our balcony. Did the whole walk on the beach picking up sea shells and beach combing. The flowers around the resort was nice also. Mom's dog max was welcomed without any problems at all. Max behaved pretty good after he got over being afraid of riding on the elevator. A few rides on the elevator mom had to carry him because he refused to get on. Max was quiet in the room unless he looked out the window and seen another dog on the beach then he barked. At night there wasn't even a sound out of max. Max was brought as a service dog so we wasn't charged additional fee's for having a dog. Max was very watchful for us when we where crossing the street even stopped us a few times as if to say no your walking into the street. But with a little encouragement he went right along with us to cross over to the restaurants and attractions. Max was very helpful alerting us to sounds and our surroundings. Plus we wouldn't have been happy there without our dog. It was a must he came along or mom wouldn't have considered coming at all. We weren't exhausted when we got there but did need a break from all the driving.
Me and mom walked the beach and picked up shells. Mostly myself because we were having problems walking in the sand. It was difficult for me also but I did it anyway. Near the surf the sand was packed and there wasn't any problem walking there it was just getting to that point.
I probably walked several miles on the beach including the boardwalk around the cost. There were several amusement parks, farris wheels, roller coasters. Me and mom being at our age wasn't very interested in that at all. One of the amusement parks wasn't even open when we arrived. They opened it up on Friday. Bike week was starting that weekend and the harleys was starting to show up on Thursday we came home on Saturday. I'm glad we did because the area was filling up because of bike week. As we where leaving there was several wrecks backing up traffic for miles. Our terrible gps devices decided we needed to detour due to several wrecks so our trip back home was not a pleasant one. The detour led into areas where our gps wouldn't pick up a signal at all. We went in circles several times and the route ended being different than the one we took to the beach. Yes we where frustrated. But, mom was a huge help because she remembered some of her previous trips and new more about navigation better than I did. As we where getting closer to home and it was dark raining a little I wasn't seeing the road very well. So, we took the next exit stayed at a Hampton for the night before continuing on home. I was getting worried we would have a accident and the traffic in Charleston North Carolina was terrible. But the views of some of high rise buildings from the highway was interesting to see. The way they towered so high and the sun on the front of them. I wasn't able to get a picture because I was driving. Had a couple of near misses on our way back almost got hit but we survived just fine. Got mom back home in time for mothers day. I'll post some pictures bellow.
