Rhododendron Festival Roan Mountain

Saturday 06/16/2017

Another weekend and another welcomed chance to spend time together.  This Saturday we got up early bought breakfast as McDonald's on our way to Roan Mountain.  We packed a cooler also with bottled water, ham and turkey sandwiches and snacks.  It was 90 degree's outside but about 10 degree's cooler on the mountain.   Try to keep our walking limited due to the hot weather and our health.  Mom walked quite a bit and fared pretty well some feet swelling but managed pretty good.   Didn't take as many pictures this time around.  I have some from previous visits there.  Enjoyed the amphitheater surrounded by hundreds of vendors.    Old country music including banjo, violins.  Mom liked it more than  I thought she would.  Thought maybe she was pondering your youth and things from her previous years. Of course I'm not a mind reader.   We sat enjoyed the music for maybe and hour or more.   Then drove on up to the top of Roan Mountain near the North Carolina Border.  The drive is scenic with vast views of the mountains from the overlooks.  A few of them along the drive up.  Parking was hard to find at the top many people looking at the rhododendron blooms and hiking.  Of course we didn't hike like the other but did for small way.

I'm just grateful that we had another day to enjoy and spend time together.   It did us both good to get out of the house a while.  I felt like I was to quiet on the way back home and should have paid a lot more attention to my mom.  But even so, all turned out well.

Here's a few pictures..........
