Nature & Wild Life Day

Wasn't able to work on my raised flower beds today due to fact is sprinkled rain on and off.  Walked around the yard a while the buttercups where in full bloom.  Found a couple the size of fifty cent pieces.  I thought it was abnormal size for a buttercup.  While walking around look at an old tree stump that my mother was talking about planting flowers in the middle of.  All of a sudden a see this weird looking swarm of insects.  I took pictures of course.  Turns out it is a big nest of termites in the old tree stump.   Yeppers, sprayed the stump pretty good with insecticide.   I think it might kill some of them but there was a bunch that flew away.  EEEEEK!!!!!!   Hoping to stop some of these termites the old landscape timbers had some to but nothing like that old tree stump.

When I went to get the insecticide I almost stepped on a toad.  Got pictures of it also.  Nice orange colors mixed in.  Had one the summer before that stayed around my front porch.  Thought of it kinda like a pet toad.  However, no I did not pick it up and or kiss the toad.   You know warts and everything!!!!

Sitting on my back porch taking pictures of birds I looked up at the maple tree and seen three little baby squirrels.  They where playing hide and seek kind of.   They would run in and out of holes in the tree that was made by flicker wood peckers.   I think they where unsure as to weather or not to come out.  But, they did and well went a little bit squirrely.  I estimated they was about 4 to 5 inches long in body and almost double that if you included the tail.  They where fun to watch peeking in out the hole in the tree.   They liked to eat the maple seeds (twirly things) we used to call them helicopters when I was kid.   Didn't know baby squirrels like to eat the seed out of those.

We have a blue bird box on the side of a telephone pole and I have been watching for several days.  I'm beginning to think that we have two species of birds nesting in the same box.  Odd as it is, one night I watched blue birds flying in and out as if to be feeding babies.  Then today I watched tree swallows doing the same thing.  Actually I noticed the tree swallows first a few days ago.   Could the tree swallows be feeding blue birds and visa versa.  I found it unusual.

Of course photo's to follow........

Flicker Wood Pecker That Provided Play Ground For The Squirrels In My Maple Tree.  Sigh!
Didn't do a picture of the buttercups because I really need to take one with a quarter beside it to show size.  Maybe do that another time.

Some of my plant seeds are coming up.  Can't wait to see them start blooming.  I'll put pictures of them when they do.
